Chikkamagaluru is home to Mullayanagiri the highest peak in Karnataka at 6330 ft. The drive from Chikmagalur to Kemmanagundi is spectacular and a must if you visit these hills, caution though is advised as the road is narrow and winding with mountains to your right and deep valleys on your left.

Raj Bhavan at the top of the hill with a splendid view is a government guest house run by the department of horticulture and is the most convenient place to stay but reservations are nearly impossible to get as it is most often booked.
